Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev won his first trophy for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - resulted in him falling of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first trophy after the Italian tournament and first on a hard court after March of the previous year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his last six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had led observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was over.

But the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform positively, supported by an improved serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the first set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors traded breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to create a third set.

Moutet defended 4 early chances in a close final set before the Russian broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman unable to manage a return after a lengthy match.
